Hello!

This is a blog dedicated to documenting sewing self drafted and indie sewing patterns, consuming less, being better to people and the earth, creative exploration, and my life and times in Rochester, NY.

Sunday Drives: May 21st, 2017

This past weekend was Sam and I's six monthaversary. If you follow me on instagram, you know i'm well aware that celebrating any anniversary under a year feels naive and trivial, but honestly every day with Sam feels special enough to celebrate. Also we're prone to couch hangouts with new netflix, and it's nice to have an excuse to go out somewhere fun in Rochester.

Fiorella is arguably my favorite restaurant in Rochester. We thought a monthaversary was a good of an excuse if any to wine and dine, so we snuck into a spot at the bar a little before 8. I recommend making reservations for sitting, but you can get food and drink at the bar too. The drinks are always fantastic, and the food ALWAYS exceeds my expectations. Sam ordered the market pizza and honestly it was the best pizza I have ever had.

Is there anything nicer than eating the best food and looking at your partner with love in your heart? Prob not.

Sunday morning we decided to try Bxcr Donuts, a brand new donut place right around the corner from Fiorella near the public market. I've seen them out and about on instagram, so I was excited to finally catch them in their brick and mortar location. I was so pleasantly blown away to find that there was not only donuts (arguably my favorite food) but also fried chicken and mac and cheese (definitely my favorite food).

Not only was there a wide array of food choices perfectly curated to fit my personal food loves, the food itself was amazing. The donuts were easily the best donuts I've ever had, and I know I said that about the Fiorella pizza above, but honestly my life has changed now and I'm a new woman with new favorites.

I tried a few different flavors, but my favorites were the Maple Bacon donut (pictured above) and the Lavender Donut. I'm no food blogger, but I consider myself to be a part time donut expert. The donuts are doughy but not dry in the middle, and the glaze makes the pastry sweet but you still get the pillowy inside of a perfect donut. There's a flavor option for everyone, ranging from subtle to decadent, and savory to sweet. The mac and cheese is not my favorite in the entire world but it is definitely something I look forward to enjoying again.

The atmosphere in Bxcr is fresh, light, and inviting. I really can't wait to spend many more weekends here with Sam and other friends. It's also so close to the studio, I'm going to have to put a weekly donut cap on myself.

With full tummies we walked over to the public market and waddled around a little bit. Dom and Sam both bought odd things from an antique seller packing up to leave. Walking around with two adult men dressed in black and donning a skull and an oversized hammer was interesting, to say the least.

I feel like I end all of these Sunday posts the same way, but they always remind me how thankful I am to live in such a lovely city with my partner and such great friends. Be sure to tell me in the comments where in the world you tasted your best donut.
