Courage is something every child needs, and the Bible speaks about it often. Here are four short verses to read with your child, each with a simple question to start a conversation. (Verses are from the World English Bible.)

1. Be strong and courageous
“Haven't I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don't be afraid. Don't be dismayed, for Yahweh your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
Talk about it: When do you feel like you need to be strong and brave?
2. God is with you
“Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.” (Isaiah 41:10)
Talk about it: What does it mean that God will uphold you?
3. Trust God when you're afraid
“When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.” (Psalm 56:3)
Talk about it: What is one thing that scares you? Can you trust God with it?
4. Courage over fear
“For God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
